Carrots: A relatively new crop to Southalls of Norchard, we are growing them in a joint venture with a specialist carrot grower. Like asparagus they thrive in our light sandy soils and when drilled into beds in May can be over-wintered under a deep layer of straw and harvested the following March or April. It is interesting for the farm team to be involved in a new crop and to witness the technology and skill that has been developed to ensure year round supply of UK carrots.
